- The Care Ritual : First Wash: We highly recommend dry cleaning for the very first wash to securely lock in the artisanal dyes and preserve the pristine fall of the weave. Subsequent Washes: If hand washing at home, always use cold water paired with a mild liquid detergent or gentle baby shampoo. Handle with Love: Gently swirl the saree in the soapy water. Avoid any harsh rubbing, scrubbing, or wringing, as the delicate, fine yarns are sensitive to friction. The Gentle Drain: Instead of twisting the fabric to remove water, softly press the saree between your palms or against the side of the bucket to allow excess water to drain away. Shadow Dry: Dry the saree flat in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Keep it completely away from direct sunlight to prevent the colours from fading and to protect the natural fibres. The Perfect Finish: Iron on a medium-hot cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp. This helps relax the fine weave, smooth out any natural shrinkage, and restore its fluid, graceful drape. A Note on Natural Cotton: Pure handloom and artisanal mulmul may experience minor relaxation shrinkage after the first home wash and may initially bleed a little excess dye. This is a natural characteristic of authentic, untreated textiles and will settle beautifully after a damp steam iron.
